The Crisis Magazine

The Present Crisis
Russell Lowell

Once to every man and nation
comes the moment to decide.
In the strife of Truth with Falsehood,
on the good or evil side;
Some great cause, God’s new Messiah,
o fering each the bloom or blight,
Parts the goats upon the left hand,
and the sheep upon the right,
And the choice goes by forever
’twixt that darkness and that light.

This poem by Russell Lowell was the motivational creation that gave "The Crisis", the journal edited by WEB Dubois for the NAACP its name. What a powerful poem by Mr. Lowell and still relevant today as it was in November 1910, when The Crisis Magazine had its initial publication released. One inspiring feature of the early The Crisis Magazine was "The Read Aloud". We need to bring that feature back to our communities today.
