Saluting 150 Years & The Epic, Epicness Of Howard University

Just how powerful a force in the literary world was Paul Laurence Dunbar. Just how powerful a force was Paul Laurence Dunbar in defining the black experience in our communities. Just how productive and poignant was the literary work of Paul Laurence Dunbar. One simply has to travel to any major metropolitan area of this nation to view the majestic nature of this incredible human force named Paul Laurence Dunbar. Along with Frederick Douglass, these two men's names mark the landscape of so many of our communities educational institutions.

When one thinks of black excellence in writing two names should come immediately to mind Langston Hughes and Paul Laurence Dunbar. Paul Laurence Dunbar was shortened by an early death at the age of thirty-four. However, those years were spent creating black magic on the pages of historical history. When I think of Howard University's Epic Epicness I immediately think of the man named Paul Laurence Dunbar whose creative genius was at such a level it defied human understanding. In many ways, the foundation that has made Howard University so uniquely brilliant is embodied in the character of Paul Laurence Dunbar. So this afternoon as I continue my jaunt to delivering these segments honoring Howard University's 150 years, I bring you in, Paul Laurence Dunbar's words, my voice just a sampling of his genius.
