WILLIAM L. PATTERSON and PAUL ROBESON NAMES YOU SHOULD KNOW

IN A PETITION IN 1951, THE CIVIL RIGHTS CONGRESS PREPARED A PETITION WRITTEN WITH THE SUPPORT OF PAUL ROBESON AND WILLIAM L. PATTERSON TO THE UNITED NATIONS JUST A SHORT FOUR YEARS AFTER THE NAACP'S PETITION, AN APPEAL TO THE WORLD. IN THIS PETITION THE CIVIL RIGHTS CONGRESS ASKED TO REDRESS FROM THE UNITED NATIONS FOR TREATMENT OF AMERICANS OF AFRICAN DESCENT. THE PETITION ACCUSED THE UNITED STATES WITH ACTS OF GENOCIDE PERPETRATED ON AMERICAN CITIZENS OF AFRICAN DESCENT. THE BLACK BLOGGER READS ALOUD THE INTRODUCTORY STATEMENT WRITTEN BY WILLIAM PATTERSON. THIS DOCUMENT WAS AN ATTEMPT TO ELIMINATE THE ACTS OF RACIAL OPPRESSION THAT OUR BLACK ANCESTORS WERE EXPERIENCING. THE CIVIL RIGHTS CONGRESS INCLUDED A LIST OF ACTS OF MURDER THAT OCCURRED IN THE UNITED STATES FROM 1947-1951 TO VALIDATE THE CHARGE OF GENOCIDE OF BLACK AMERICAN CITIZENS THAT WENT UNPUNISHED BECAUSE CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS OF OUR ANCESTORS WERE COMPLETELY IGNORED.

THIS WAS DURING A PERIOD OF TIME WHEN THE FULL WEIGHT OF THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT WAS BEING DIRECTED TO SILENCE THE VOICE OF PAUL ROBESON. PAUL ROBESON REFUSED TO YIELD TO THOSE PRESSURES THAT CAME SEEMINGLY FROM EVERY DIRECTION. PAUL ROBESON DELIVERED THE PETITION TO THE UNITED NATION IN NEW YORK CITY WHILE WILLIAM L. PATTERSON PRESENTED THE SAME PETITION TO THE UNITED NATIONS IN PARIS, FRANCE SINCE PAUL ROBESON'S PASSPORT HAD BEEN SEIZED BY THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT. PAUL ROBESON HAD BEEN LABELED BASICALLY AN ENEMY OF THE STATE AND RESTRICTED FROM TRAVELING OVERSEAS.
