In December 1964 Fannie Lou Hamer visited New York City. On December 20, 1964, Malcolm X had the occasion to speak of Fannie Lou Hamer and the physical abuse she and other Mississippians faced simply trying to get the most basic civil rights promised by the US Constitution. So as I conclude my salute to the memory of Malcolm X today I say to his powerful spirit rest in peace our journey to human equality is still being traveled but the fight continues.
