From Sea To Shining Sea Are We Really Truly Free?

As child growing up these words encouraged me

Five simple words sometimes even hypnotize me

Yet as the years have past these four words have been miscast

Five simple, simple words why are we still harassed

Why do unjust policeman always want to kick ass

Still imagined in this nation as mentally beaten outcasts

Why has injustice and inequality seemed to always holdfast

Seems to me our black community is constantly bypassed

From Sea To Shining Sea

Where the hell is our de “mock”cracy

From Sea To Shining Sea

Why the hell did that bullet just strike me

From Sea To Shining Sea

All I wanted was for my people to be set free

From Sea To Shining Sea

Who is this  Bern why did his white brothers plot to kill me

From Sea To Shining Sea

Why the hell does Trump disturb me

From Sea to Shining Sea

Justice in America still eludes me

From Sea To Shining Sea

Really “Hill” lary

From Sea To Shining Sea

I’m damn sure not guilty

From Sea To Shining Sea

So why do these jail cells confine me

From Sea To Shining Sea

Mass incarceration confounds me

Now as I grower older and wisdom is abundant

Why is injustice in this nation still so damn redundant

Those four words that brought relief

Now only manufacture disbelief

Isn’t this guy Cruz a justice thief

American democracy needs a true debrief

You see justice is seemingly hanging by a leaf

Blacks in this country have a beef

All we seem to get is grief

Even though one of us is now commander in chief

From Sea to Shining Sea

When first saw these words forever I’d be free

From Sea To Shining Sea

Hell I even jumped for joy and glee

From Sea To Shining Sea

Swore to God we’d all be free

From Sea to Shining Sea

Why do these words constantly hound me

From Sea To Shining Sea

Why hasn’t miss justice heard our plea

From Sea To Shining Sea

Five damn words no not three

Words that encourage we’d all agree

Liberty’s bell rings loud you see

But it’s silenced to some degree

Not everyone believes these words you see

Five damn words no not three

Five damn words no not three

Injustice should never be this nation’s decree

When you hear these words you flourish

Democracy and justice should never be malnourished

All of it’s peoples deserved to be cherished

Five damn words not just three

I still hope for From Sea To Shining Sea

Those five damn words not just three

Will lead the way to black folks finally being free

From Sea to Shining Sea

Forty eight years later the same racial battle I see

From Sea To Shining Sea

What in God’s name will set us free.
