So Many Blacks Folks Stand For The Pledge Why So Many Black Live At That Economic Edge

America’s Pledge Standing Not Pandering

America’s Pledge Was Meant for Us All

I pledge allegiance to the flag

Of the United States of America

And to the republic to which it stands

One nation indivisible

With liberty and justice for all

America you made made a pledge

You stated that justice wouldn’t jump off the ledge

You told us that liberty would be the great wedge

Why is it America so many of our leaders hedge

Cutting through justice with a straightedge

Striking equality with a sand wedge

No wonder so many blacks folks creep to the edge

Never believing in America’s ill gotten pledge

Convicted and jailed the system alleged

Never standing in front of power’s cutting edge

Yes America you have truly forgotten your pledge

Guilty as charged as the indictment alleged

So America you demand that we all stand tall for the pledge

Yet the winds of injustice have pushed us to the ledge

The absence of liberty means a weakened wedge

Winds of inequality are at the leading edge

This storm that we face needs a huge dredge

We need politicians who decide not to hedge

We need politicians who honor the pledge

Make smart decision moving folks from the ledge

Please America if justice is for all

Stop allowing our people to fall

Put an end to this urban decrepit sprawl

Too many black folks banging heads on the walls

Too many black folks unable to crawl

Please America if liberty leads

Please adhere to our communities needs

We in this nation must stop planting injustice’s seed

Didn’t that pledge ask that we all take heed

Justice and liberty the pledge decreed

It will take everyone of us to live out it’s creed

Take everyone of us to insure democracy succeeds

Otherwise America will continue to recede, indeed

I pledge allegiance to the flag

Of the United States of America

And to the republic to which it stands

One nation indivisible

With liberty and justice for all

So please America stand by the pledge

Make sure that justice steps from the ledge

And insure that freedom secures the wedge

And stop sending these politicians who constantly hedge
