"In His Words My Voice, Project Uplift Literacy" - Dr. Benjamin Hooks, April 3, 1978

Dr. Benjamin Hooks was one of the greatest civil rights warriors of our time. This magnificent man was lawyer and minister, he served on the Federal Communications Commission and was the Executive Director of the NAACP. This speech was given on the 10th anniversary of the murder of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr at a small Lutheran college outside of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The speech is 45 minutes in duration but it is one of the most powerful examples of the power of Benjamin Hooks as a speaker. Dr. Hooks believed mightily in power of the written and spoken word. We must eradicate illiteracy in our communities to ensure the dream of full equality in this nation is realized.
