The Best Of The Best Restricted Nevertheless
Before Jackie Robinson came from Los Angeles via Kansas City and the Monarchs the color line in major league baseball was as evident as the Berlin Wall. It separated justice from injustice, inequality of opportunity from equality of opportunity. However, one thing that the color line couldn't erase was the absolute talent of those magnificent black baseball players who displayed their enormous skills in the Negro Baseball as well as the winter leagues in the Carribean Islands. Today's salute as I step back into our history is my poem dedicated to the men of summer whose skills couldn't beat the racism the racism of this country but those same skills could not be ignored. Our black history need not ever be a black mystery.
