In His Words, My Voice; Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
On April 16, 1963, 54 years ago today Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote his powerful letter from a Birmingham Jail. This letter detailed the force and the power of the movement for equality that Dr. King foresaw. It also discussed how this movement simply couldn't be ignored any longer. Today on this Easter Sunday, I pay homage to one of the greatest essays ever written, "The Letter From The Birmingham City Jail.
"Never before have I written so long a letter. I'm afraid it is much too long to take your precious time. I can assure you that it would have been much shorter if I had been writing from a comfortable desk, but what else can one do when he is alone in a narrow jail cell, other than write long letters, think long thoughts and pray long prayers?"
