Climb That Mountain Peak or Tear Down Those Barriers
Reading aloud is one of the most important
things parents and teachers can do with children. Reading aloud builds many important foundational skills, introduces vocabulary, provides a model of fluent, expressive reading, and helps children recognize what reading for pleasure is all about.

The ultimate goal of an educated black child should not be to achieve
the most basic level of reading proficiency. The goal or aim is to arouse the mechanics for that black child to become a strategically advanced reader fully capable of comprehending and tackling a myriad of books and resources that build knowledge. Reaching
that goal should be centered now just on our classroom teachers but the entire black village and the black community to prepare and encourage our black children. You see it is my belief that the highest peak on this planet can be reached by taking that first
step, or the toughest barrier can be knocked down by removing the first block and then another.
